Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Arts, Community and Culture team on a full time, fixed term basis through to 30 June 2024 in the position of Officer Arts and Cultural Development.

This position will develop and implement arts and cultural development programs and initiatives to increase arts based participation and to develop links and mutually advantageous relationships with arts and community based organisations across the region. It will also support the implementation of Council’s Arts and Cultural Plan and other cultural development related actions in Council’s programs, strategies and policies, as well as coordinate Council’s implementation of the Regional Arts Development Fund.  

The position will be required to:

- Develop and implement community cultural development programs and projects that increase participation and engagement in the arts within the Gympie Region;  

- Coordinate all aspects of Council’s partnership with Arts Queensland in regard to the Regional Arts Development Fund (including annual funding bid, grants program, reporting and acquittal); 

- Foster and develop links and mutually advantageous relationships and partnerships with funding bodies, industry agencies, arts practitioners and community based organisations; 

- Apply best practice community engagement to coordinate cultural planning initiatives to inform both Council and community investment in arts and cultural projects; 

- Identify and coordinate community arts or cultural projects that support and enhance Council initiated programs and projects across the organisation;  

- Support the Coordinator, Arts Community and Culture to work with colleagues across Council to achieve arts and community cultural development objectives outlined in Council’s Corporate Plan and other strategies, including the implementation and review of Council’s Arts and Cultural Plan and Arts and Cultural Policy 

- Support the  Coordinator, Arts Community and Culture  to prepare reports to Council by providing information on arts and cultural activities and outcomes across the region; 

- Provide information, support and advice to community arts organisations and arts practitioners to assist their sustainability and financial viability, including information on accessing services and grants programs offered by Council and external agencies; 

- Prepare, administer and acquit internal grants applications as required; 

- Other duties required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this position and the Arts, Community and Culture Team deliverables. 

What we are looking for

To be successful in this position, you will have:

- Formal qualification in arts/community cultural development, communications, project management and/or similar field or minimum 3 years experience in a related field. 

- Demonstrated experience in the arts and cultural sector, either as a practitioner and/or arts administrator; 

- Sound understanding of, and demonstrated ability to apply community development and community engagement principles; 

- Well-developed events management skills including planning, promotion, budgeting and logistics; 

- Demonstrated ability to research, develop and evaluate projects with high level of community involvement; 

- Sound understanding of arts and cultural industries including funding and support mechanisms  

- High level verbal and written communication skills including high level ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external relationships and networks; 

- Demonstrated comprehensive computer skills including experience in Microsoft Office applications; 

- Demonstrated experience in work prioritisation, time management organisational skills; 

- Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team in a professional manner.
