Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $107,656.12 plus 13% superannuation

Role Overview

The purpose of this pivotal position will be to lead the Resource Recovery team in the development and implementation of programs and processes that facilitate effective management of Council’s commercial and domestic waste management responsibilities.

What we are looking for

Council is seeking a self driven, career focused individual with a strong background in leadership, project delivery, environmental compliance and sustainable resource recovery operations.  This position requires the ability to effectively manage Council's commercial and domestic waste management responsibilities, while leading a team of waste management professionals to deliver a resource recovery service to the community.

As Coordinator Resource Recovery, you will be directly responsible for:

  • Leading and managing a team of waste management professionals in the delivery of resource recovery operations to the community.
  • Coordinating, delivering and monitoring the City’s resource recovery operations through the effective management of Council’s commercial and domestic waste management responsibilities. 
  • Developing, and implementing projects and policies in line with the recommendations of the Gympie Regional Council Waste Management Strategy.
  • Providing specialist advice to Council on resource recovery and waste management operations.
  • Supporting education programs that raise community awareness of sustainable resource recovery and waste operations.
  • Assisting in the development of a long term waste disposal solution for the Gympie Region
  • Assisting in budget planning and operational delivery of works
  • Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships to effectively enhance Council’s resource recovery and waste operations

To be successful in this role, applicants must have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Engineering or other relevant/related qualifications and/or significant relevant experience in waste management or appropriately related fields.
  • Knowledge of relevant contemporary resource recovery and waste management practice and legislation, including ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability in the leadership and management of outdoor workforce teams.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, building effective relationships and teams, negotiation, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to resolve issues and meet changing organisational needs.
  • Ability to develop productive partnerships with key stakeholders that will enhance Council operations.
  • Extensive experience in waste and resource management and waste management project design and delivery on a medium or large scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and foster a customer service culture.
  • Analytical and decision making ability with the capacity to develop strategies, policies, plans, systems and projects to achieve Council objectives.
