The library service is highly valued by our community.  The Gympie Regional Libraries network consists of six branch libraries located at Gympie, Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Kilkivan, Goomeri and Imbil. 

  

Junior Assistant - Libraries (Client Services) 2 x Fixed Term Positions

Council currently has two Junior Assistant fixed term positions available to students commencing year 11 in 2024. These fixed term positions will be contracted for a two-year period to cease on 31 January 2026.

Remuneration: Casual junior hourly rate of $26.26(depending on age) plus superannuation

Position Overview

These positions provide assistance to senior library staff, working as part of the library team, maintaining library services and delivering high quality information and customer service to the community. Duties include loaning, returning and shelving library materials, trouble-shooting customer IT issues and assisting in the delivery of library programs.

The two positions are located at Gympie Library, and will average approximately 7 hours per week, consisting of rostered shifts: Monday - Friday (3.15pm - 5.15pm), every second Saturday (8.45am - 12.15pm) (plus occasional additional hours in school holidays).

What we are looking for?

Council is looking for two highly motivated, flexible and reliable school students who are passionate about working in libraries. A high level of communication skills will be critical to success, along with an understanding of library services, time management skills and a high level of ability with digital technology.

  • Ensure that the community receives a positive customer service experience at our libraries on a daily basis.
  • Support the provision of information and technology services assistance and support for library customers.
  • Assist in the delivery of programs to fulfil the community’s needs including children’s activities, technology sessions and community workshops.
  • Participate in reviews of branch library processes and procedures to ensure a continuous improvement focus on customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the ability to confidently promote library services to the community.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication and teamwork skills with organisational ability.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, including word processing and basic research skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, innovative and responsive to change.

The successful candidates will need to be commencing year 11 in 2024 and available to work at Gympie Library on a casual basis in 2024 and 2025.
