Role Overview

To provide high level technical customer service in relation to building and associated development matters, for the general public, builders, private building certifiers, development consultants, and Council.

This role also assists to provide mandatory building regulatory functions under the supervision of the Coordinator Building Section, as well as supporting Council’s building certification team, Development Assessment Section, Plumbing Inspectors and Administration Officers

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Conduct assessments and prepare relevant documentation for Concurrence Agency responses for building related matters under the Building Act 1975 and the Planning Act 2016.
  • Carry out the functions of a Council Pool Safety Inspector as defined by the Building Act 1975.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and assess and/or investigate Customer Request Management Enquiry’s (CRM) in accordance with the Branch Policies in a timely manner.
  • To provide high level customer service and technical advice in relation to building and associated development matters, for the general public, builders, private building certifiers, development consultants, and other Directorates within council.
  • To participate in policy and procedure reviews for the building section on an annual basis with a continuous improvement focus.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Knowledge and a broad understanding of the local government environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and certification of Class 1 and 10 buildings with an expert knowledge of the relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes that regulate the building and development industry;
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a specialised team environment to achieve quality outcomes with regard to building and planning related matters;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to facilitate the preparation of written instructions, reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card. 

Desirable Requirements:

  • Qualification in Local Government Compliance (Certificate IV equivalent within the field); and/or
  • Currently studying to obtain a Diploma of Local Government (Planning) or equivalent para-planner tertiary qualification; and/or
  • Currently studying or prepared to study a recognised course that satisfies the accreditation requirements for a Building Certifier Level 3 with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.
  • QBCC Pool Safety Inspector Licence that is current and maintained.
