Role Overview

Protect and enhance the livability of our community by appropriately interpreting and implementing Council's Planning Scheme through the timely assessment and decision recommendations for development applications.

What we are looking for

Gympie Regional Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Town Planner for a full-time permanent position within a unique region, currently experiencing a development boom.  Reporting to the Manager Planning, you will be working in a team of Planning professionals to foster positive development outcomes while ensuring the quality of the built and natural environment is protected through sustainable economic development.

Your experience will be relied on to provide consistent advice to all relevant stakeholders on land use planning matters, and a key responsibility will be the preparation of reports to Council on all aspects of the development assessment process.

To be considered, you must have:

  • Degree or post-graduate degree in planning recognised for corporate membership by the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements relevant to development assessment within Queensland.
  • Demonstrated experience of statutory planning or development assessment within the public or private sectors, with the ability to assess and resolve complex planning matters.
  • Ability to interpret statutory requirements relevant to development assessment within Queensland.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to the delivery of positive and respectful customer service.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective report writing and correspondence, and to effectively convey information on complex planning matters to Council’s customers.
  • Knowledge of the role of local government and its service functions

An understanding of the planning issues specific to the Gympie Region would be regarded favourably, as would additional qualifications in natural resources, landscape architecture, architecture or urban design.
