Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced person for a part time 32 hours PW (Fixed Term) position at the saleyards. The Team Member Saleyards Operations is responsible for assisting in the efficient operation and maintenance of the Gympie Saleyards in accordance with the Gympie Saleyards Quality Management System, related codes, and Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) requirements.

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Demonstrated experience in working with and handling livestock, as well as supervising tradespeople, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining timber and steel structures used in a saleyard (or similar workplace environment).
  • Knowledge and experience of the livestock production industry in particular saleyard operations and functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in general administrative procedures specific to saleyard processes.
  • Knowledge and safe operation of hand tools, power tools and a welding machine.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake a broad range of tasks including operation of plant, vehicles, equipment, and tools, in a competent and proficient manner.
  • Demonstrated physical agility and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting and bending.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmony within a team and foster good working relationships with all Council employees and members of the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under general supervision.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Skid steer Ticket/Competency (or ability to obtain)

Essential Requirements: 

  • Undertake a wide range of manual and labour orientated tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner at the Gympie Saleyards facility, including basic carpentry, welding, cleaning, and yard maintenance.
  • Assist in facilitating the smooth operation of Sale Day activities including liaising with the buyer’s agents, internal stakeholders, contractors, as well as undertaking reactive maintenance, weighbridge activities and other tasks associated with Sale Days.
  • Maintain effective relationships with both, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Control impounded stock processes in accordance with Council processes.
  • Operate and maintain light plant and equipment in a competent and efficient manner to deliver Council’s work program at the Gympie Saleyards.
  • Identify new ways to improve work practices in accordance with Council's continuous improvement commitment.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the facility supporting initiatives within the Commercial Services Business Unit.
