What we are looking for:

Gympie Regional Council has an opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Team for a full-time fixed term position commencing early to mid-November 2024 (subject to negotiation).  This role will provide high level operational day to day coordination of Council’s Building services team, ensuring a high standard of building services with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service.

This includes overseeing the efficient and effective processing and assessment of building development applications submitted to Council, promoting community health, amenity, and safety in the built environment.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  •       Directly oversee and coordinate the functions of the Building Services team by providing high level support, mentoring and guidance to a team of Certifiers, technical staff and administration officers.
  • Make and issue decisions relating to building regulatory matters in accordance with Council’s delegation schedule.
  • Provide high level support for the Manager Building and Plumbing as required.
  • Provide expert technical support and advice on building matters to other Directorates within council and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the issuing of formal searches for building and plumbing development related information.
  • Coordinate regular review of systems and processes associated with the assessment of building development and concurrence referral applications submitted to Council.
  • Provide technical, strategic, financial and business planning assistance to the Manager Building and Plumbing to assist with the preparation and review of budgetary requirements for building services that meet community expectations and delivery with a focus on customers.

Essential Requirements:

  • A qualification and equivalent experience that satisfies the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) licencing requirements for a Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3.
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and certification of all Building Classifications with an expert knowledge of the relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes that regulate the building and development industry.
  • Experience in the development and review of operational budgets to achieve financial efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating a team of highly skilled professionals, including knowledge of contemporary human resource practices, and the ability to implement and foster a positive customer service culture.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills to facilitate the preparation of detailed reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers on building related matters.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class drivers' licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry Safety Induction Card (blue/white).
  • Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3 Licence.
