Role Overview

This position supports Council’s direction by undertaking a wide range of maintenance and construction works requests that are urgent, high priority or complex/sensitive by nature, such as (but not limited to): plant and truck operations, labouring tasks, concreting, storm water drainage, kerb and channel repairs operations.

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organise complex road construction and maintenance work under limited supervision.
  • Relevant civil construction experience to identify, diagnose and resolve a broad range of construction or maintenance works activities. Developing experience to identify hazards and take steps to minimise risks and ensure safety.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding in the application of environmental and health and safety legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organise complex road construction and maintenance work under limited supervision.
  • Physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting and bending.
  • Ability to acquire the skills to work proficiently with mobile devices and other business technologies.
  • Experience and ability to operate relevant civil construction plant and machinery with possession of the relevant tickets and licences.
  • Queensland ‘HR’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or Trade qualification (or nearing completion such qualification)
  • Traffic Management Implementation.
  • Competency to conduct Civil Construction Skid Steer Loader Operations (RIIMP0318D).
  • Competency to conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations (RIIMPO320F).
  • Construction Industry White/Blue Card

Essential Requirements: 

  • Operate and maintain medium complexity plant and equipment in a competent and efficient manner to deliver council’s work program in accordance with the level of the Award.
  • Perform labouring tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner to deliver councils work program to quality standards.
  • Other requests allocated to the team requiring tact, professionalism and judgement to respond to councilor requests or reputation risks in relation to maintenance and construction works.
  • Champion technology improvements to support a mobile workforce. Contribute to the development of procedures in relation to area of work. Work autonomously, cohesively and collaboratively with other council teams.
  • Participate in the development of a healthy and safe workplace. Embracing initiatives, information and training and incorporating safety into all daily activities. Demonstrate safe work behaviors, abiding by procedures, identifying and reporting hazards, and contributing to all aspects of a safe workplace culture
  • Identify new ways to improve work practices in accordance with council's continuous improvement commitment.
  • Complete other relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this position
