Open Space Maintenance Team Member - Sportsfield

Remuneration: Dependent on skills and qualifications ranging between $68,136 to $69,102 plus up to 13% superannuation

Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council is looking for an experienced applicant who are looking to join the Open Space Sportsfied crew. This position supports Council's direction by undertaking a range of tasks including sportsfield maintenance, plant operation and truck driving in accordance with Council’s policies and standards.  These activities make up part of the multi-disciplined team that is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Council's Open Space assets. These assets include parks, reserves, sporting facilities, urban streetscapes, beach, foreshores and cemeteries.

The position will be required to assist other Open Space works teams when required.

What we are looking for:

  • Undertake a range of tasks including mowing, brushcutting, aerating, scarifying, spraying, marking, rolling of sports turf to enable regional quality sports to be played on the playing field.
  • Provide knowledge of sports turf maintenance requirements and provide advice on treatment techniques to maintain the turf to an acceptable standard.
  • Perform tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner. Comply with all Council’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken to a quality standard which contributes to the overall presentation of Councils’ sportsfields service standards to the satisfaction of the community.
  • Operate and maintain medium sized plant (tractors) and horticultural equipment in a safe and efficient manner to maintain Council’s Open Space assets.
  • Provide information and guidance to trainees, casual employees and new starters.
  • Research and suggest new ways to improve work practices in accordance with council's continuous improvement commitment.
  • Schedule workload to maintain productivity and consistancy across all levels of sportsfield.

Mandatory Licence/Ticket Requirements:

  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.

  • Construction Industry White/Blue card

Desirable Licence/Tickets 

  • Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (Mandatory Level 5)
  • Queensland ‘MR” Class licence that is current and maintained.
  • Chainsaw ticket (FWPCOT – 2237,2238,2239)
  • Implement Traffic Management ticket.
  • Skid steer or front-end loader ticket
  • Chemical Application Licence (ACDC ticket)
  • Irrigation system central control operations
