Officer Plumbing Backflow

Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $93,611 plus up to 13% superannuation

Role Overview

Under the supervision of the Coordinator Plumbing, carry out the functions of a Council Plumbing Inspector as defined by the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, delivering high quality, professional customer service ensuring quality standards, processes and documentation satisfy customer and organisational requirements. This role is predominantly responsible for administering Council’s legislated responsibilities for backflow prevention device compliance and management, including auditing, and maintaining a specific backflow prevention device and servicing register.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with a working knowledge of the relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes that regulate plumbing and drainage works in Queensland, especially in relation to backflow prevention.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and organise workloads to meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and cooperatively in an integrated team environment by developing effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of the role of confidentiality within a compliance environment. 
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to facilitate the preparation of written instructions, reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers.
  • Data processing, word processing and editing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite. 
  • A current Queensland Plumbers and Drainers Licence with endorsements for Backflow Prevention; On-site sewage facility maintenance; Solar and heat pump hot water system installation.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry Safety Induction Card.   

 Essential Requirements: 

  • Undertake auditing responsibilities to ensure that council meets its legislative requirements for maintaining a specific backflow prevention device and servicing register to ensure backflow prevention device compliance and management within the region.
  • Assist the plumbing section team to comply with the requirements of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 for activities such as Plumbing Application inspections and assessments, conducting compliance inspections, and maintaining legislative registers for Notifiable Works and on-site wastewater management.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by providing accurate plumbing and drainage advice to customers through a range of mediums including face to face, phone, and email, especially in relation to backflow prevention.
  • Undertake authorised investigation activities to provide expert advice in relation to non-compliance of plumbing related matters.
  • Participate in policy and procedure reviews for the plumbing section with a continuous improvement focus.
