Role Overview

Gympie Regional council has an exciting opportunity for a self-driven and motivated individual to join our Building and Plumbing Section as a Cadet Officer Building Certification.

Reporting to the Coordinator Building, you will gain valuable experience in the field of Building Certification by assisting the current Building Certifiers and Town Planners team in the assessment of development applications.  As you learn on the job, you will be rewarded with financial assistance to undertake and complete a qualification in Building Certification.

Support operational day to day functions for council’s building certification services, with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service, to provide a high standard of building services that promotes community health, amenity, and safety in the built environment.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Currently studying or prepared to study a recognised course that satisfies the accreditation requirements for a Building Certifier Level 3 with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission with Level 3 license achieved within three years of commencing the role.
  • A willingness to learn and apply pool safety inspector requirements, as outlined in the Building Act 1975.
  • Demonstrated experience within a building environment, including knowledge of Building Classifications, relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes that regulate the building and development industry.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to facilitate the preparation of written instructions, reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, yet also within a team environment.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class drivers' licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry Safety Induction Card (blue/white).

Essential Requirements: 

  • Assist with the efficient processing of building related applications which includes any relevant certification and inspections.
  • Respond to customer enquiries in accordance with branch policies and procedures, meeting community expectations and delivery with a focus on customers.
  • Provide technical support and advice on building matters to other Directorates within council and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out administration functions required for the role and provide support to the Administration Team within the branch, as required.
