Team Member Landfill (3-month secondment)

Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $70,883, plus up to 13% superannuation

Role Overview

GRC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced applicant with the skills and experience as a Team Member Landfill, this is a fulltime fixed term position for approx. 3 months with the Resource and Recovery Operations Branch. You will be required to perform any combination of the following duties to dispose of solid waste materials at landfill and waste transfer sites: 

  • Travel between Council’s landfill facility and waste transfer stations across region to facilitate stockpile push up and management including the transport of waste where applicable.
  • Operate all applicable heavy equipment including, but not limited to, landfill compactors, bulldozers, hydraulic excavators, backhoes, loaders, etc to excavate landfill site, transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.  Also utilize plant to distribute water over landfill to control dust.
  • Direct incoming vehicles to dumping area.
  • Examine cargo to prohibit disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Spray pesticides and herbicides and other specified chemicals over waste material and landfill areas to control disease carrying pests and weeds.
  • Implement measures to control windblown litter including litter picking.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment.
  • Perform duties of Skilled Labourer as required.
  • Perform related work as required and directed within the level of responsibility.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant plant and machinery, heavy vehicles or heavy vehicle combinations.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively and cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Experience in working autonomously and in following general direction.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skill to facilitate internal and external stakeholder communications, especially with council’s customers.
  • Queensland ‘HR’ Class driver’s licence or higher that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card
  • Roller competency
  • Skid Steer/Backhoe competency
  • Loader competency

Essential Requirements:

  • Operate and maintain medium complexity plant and equipment in a competent, safe and efficient manner to deliver council’s work program in accordance with the level of the Award.
  • Perform labouring tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner to deliver councils work program to quality standards and reporting all incidents to supervisor as soon as practicable within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Identify new ways to improve work practices in accordance with Council’s continuous improvement commitment.
