Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to join the People & Culture team for a fulltime fixed term position for 12 months. The Senior Officer Human Resources is a dedicated partner with an allocated Directorate/s of the organisation, providing professional generalist HR guidance and support with the objective of adding value to the business through the implementation of Council’s HR Strategy and department business plan objectives. The Advisor roles are vital in supporting the organisation in HR activities and would be the first point of contact for the relevant Directorate in managing the resolution of all generalist HR areas; brokering HR services and providing employee support.

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Qualifications or active enrolment in human resources, industrial relations or related discipline. Or minimum 2 years’ experience operating in a human resources generalist role.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret industrial instruments and provide accurate and timely     workplace and industrial law advice to key stakeholders as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong productive working relationships, operating within a business partnering model.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained. 

Essential Requirements: 

  • Provide specialist advice and assistance on a range of HR matters including (but not limited too); recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee and industrial relations and engagement of the workforce.
  • Conduct complex investigations and disciplinary meetings ensuring due process.
  • In conjunction with line manager, drive the people processes (performance, development and    career) to support employees to achieve levels of performance and capabilities required to meet current and future standards.
  • Monitor, interpret and implement all new and revised legislation relating to IR/ER.
  • Present HR Metrics to the relevant Directorate/s offering analysis and guidance on areas of focus.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Advisor and/or Manager, plan and implement changes required including developments to policy and procedure, ensuring significant changes are communicated to the organisation.
  • Foster an engaged, enabled and empowered culture to ensure Line Managers are able to be as self-sufficient as possible when managing their teams.
  • Coordinate, develop and promote feedback for employees to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.
  • Drive the determined projects/portfolios to ensure a continuous improvement approach, including encouraging participation in functions and cross-functional initiatives.
