The CBD of Gympie is the central hub to the Gympie region, which is two hours north of Brisbane and in close proximity to the Sunshine and Fraser coasts. Council offices are located in Gympie's town centre close to shopping, cafes and parking.
Volunteer (Gympie Visitor Information Centre) - Expressions of Interest
NOTE - It is important to note that by submitting an application, you are expression an interest only for Volunteering within the Gympie Visitor Information Centre (VIC), and at no time does Council guarantee a placement as a volunteer. all applications will be considered on a case by case and a business needs basis.
Remuneration: Volunteer - no salary applies
Closing Date: Expressions of Interest close on 26th October 2025 at 11.00pm AEST.
Only applications received via Council's online application system will be considered. Expressions of Interest can also be completed at the Visitor Information Centre with assistance from Council staff.
Role Overview
Council is currently seeking expressions of interest for passionate volunteers to fill vacancies within our Gympie Visitor Information Centre as they arise. By submitting your expression of interest, this will create a pool of volunteers that can be contacted at any time.
As a volunteer, you will provide a warm and friendly welcome to visitors to the region and assist in the promotion of the Gympie region tourism experiences and opportunities. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am – 2pm Saturday and Sunday.

What we are looking for:
- Someone who has a passion for the Gympie region. The role involves welcoming visitors and providing them with information, tips and advice to help them explore the beauty of the Gympie region, and what it has to offer.
- Someone who has some free time. Shifts are 3.5 - 4hrs long and are available seven days a week
- Someone with a willingness to learn. Tourism knowledge is not necessary (though it helps). If you're new to the area, you'll be given plenty of guidance and support from the Visitor Information Centre team to learn as you go!
- Some who is a people person. Polite, happy and friendly disposition with the ability to work autonomously or in a team environment. The Gympie region is a vast and beautiful region, steeped in rich history, it’s no wonder the Visitor Information Centre welcomes thousands of people each year!
- Someone who enjoys work in a customer-focused industry. Volunteering is a great opportunity to build your communication and customer service skills, and it is always an impressive inclusion on resumés. It is also a great way of meeting new people!
- Someone with basic computer and cash handling skills. Handling of cash and preparing/close Point of Sales (POS) system and EFTPOS system at end of day may be required.
