Role Overview

Officer Road Inspector supports the Coordinator Road Operations in the systematic inspection, condition rating and monitoring of Council and TMR road network infrastructure and assets to ensure the timely capture of information relating to defects for the Maintenance Database. It is essential that network infrastructure and assets condition is assessed and monitored to assist with the development of a maintenance schedule to ensure completed in an efficient and timely manner.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Certificate lV in Civil Construction Operations or related field or ability to obtain.
  • Previous exposure to road asset inspections and maintenance operations.
  • Understanding of risk management principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Exceptional communication skills in the relaying of information.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work autonomously without supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft suite of products including Word and Excel.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems including but not limited to; Assetic, Authority, Reflect, Recover, Assignit,
  • Knowledge of relevant contemporary practice and legislative requirements.
  • Intermediate computer literacy and experience in using handheld computer devices.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card.

 Essential Requirements: 

  • Inspect and condition rate Council and TMR road network infrastructure and assets.
  • Routine maintenance inspections to monitor the general serviceability of assets, particularly for the safety of users. Inspections would include but not be limited to, roads, stormwater drainage, kerb and gutter, signs and roadside facilities floodway’s, culverts, footpaths, bridges, pedestrian viewing platforms, shelter sheds and park assets.
  • Adopt a condition rating system and undertake inspections to assess the effectiveness of past maintenance and identify current and future maintenance needs to assist in the forecasting of future changes in condition and estimating future budget requirements of structures across the network.
  • Identify structural and material defects and appropriate corrective action.
  • Monitor and report on all transport assets to ensure future planning is carried out from a well-informed position
  • Collect data, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Record information electronically and provide information relevant to daily operations.
  • Contractor supervision.
  • Deliver outcomes according to the expectations of council’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Liaise closely with all areas of Council by delivering a responsive service that satisfies Gympie Regional Council’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Support and promote a positive and cooperative team environment, which fosters creative problem solving and shared learning.
  • Maintain a positive organizational image which promotes good customer relations and  maximizes the provision of a high level of service to enhance the customer experience.
  • Investigate, respond and provide information allocated to the team requiring tact, professionalism and judgement to respond to councilor and public requests or reputation risks in relation to road network activities.
  • Champion technology improvements to support a mobile workforce. Contribute to the development of procedures in relation to area of work. Work autonomously, cohesively and collaboratively with other council teams.
  • Participate in the development of a healthy and safe workplace. Embracing initiatives, information and training and incorporating safety into all daily activities. Demonstrate safe work behaviors, abiding by procedures, identifying and reporting hazards, and contributing to all aspects of a safe workplace culture.
  • Identify new ways to improve work practices in accordance with council's continuous improvement commitment.
  • Complete other relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this position.
