Gympie Regional Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Building Maintenance Officer to join our team for a full-time Fixed Term position for 6 months. This hands-on role is responsible for completing building, renovation and maintenance works across Council facilities, ensuring they are well maintained, safe and compliant with relevant legislation, standards and Council requirements.

About the Role

As a Specialist Building Maintenance Officer, you will undertake a diverse range of building and construction activities across Council facilities. You will work both independently and collaboratively with Council staff and contractors to deliver quality outcomes, with a strong focus on safety, compliance and customer service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Completing building, renovation and general maintenance works as directed.
  • Undertaking a broad range of construction activities, including carpentry, roofing, plastering and painting.
  • Supporting building projects through effective scheduling and coordination of works.
  • Ensuring Council facilities are safe, functional, fit for purpose and compliant with relevant legislation, planning and building requirements.
  • Identifying and addressing maintenance and building issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Undertaking work in accordance with Council's Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining a strong safety focus and contributing to a workplace with minimal lost-time injuries.
  • Working effectively both independently and as part of an integrated team.
  • Supervising subordinate staff and providing direction and support as required.
  • Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with relevant Council policies, procedures, codes and standards.

About You

We are looking for a skilled building and construction professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and maintaining safe, well-presented community facilities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised trade qualification in the building or construction industry.
  • Broad knowledge and demonstrated experience across building and construction activities, including carpentry, roof work, asbestos removal, plastering and painting.
  • Demonstrated experience in scheduling and coordinating building and construction projects.
  • A sound understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements and practices.
  • The ability to work effectively with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and support subordinate staff.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must hold and maintain:

  • A current Queensland Manual ‘C’ Class driver's licence or above.
  • A current Construction Industry White Card (or applicable construction induction card).
  • A recognised trade qualification in the building/construction industry.

Desirable

The following will be highly regarded:

  • Additional work-specific licences, permits or tickets, such as working at heights and other relevant competencies.
  • Experience working within a local government or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards and legislative requirements.
