We’re looking for an experienced Specialist Electrician Water to join our Water Branch and play a vital role in maintaining the electrical, control and instrumentation systems that keep our community’s water, wastewater and recycled water services operating safely and reliably.

This is a hands-on role for an electrician who enjoys solving problems, working with industrial electrical systems and making a tangible difference to essential community services.

About the Role

Gympie Regional Council is seeking 2 x Specialist Electricians for their Water Bransh. As a Specialist Electrician Water, you’ll undertake electrical installation, inspection, testing, fault finding and planned and reactive maintenance across a diverse range of Council water and wastewater assets.

You’ll work across treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, network facilities and other Water Branch sites, helping to ensure critical infrastructure remains safe, compliant, reliable and operational.

Your work will include:

• Performing preventative, planned and condition-based electrical maintenance to maximise asset reliability and performance.
• Diagnosing and repairing faults across industrial electrical and control systems, including motors, motor starters, variable speed drives, generators, automatic transfer systems and instrumentation.
• Working with PLC interfaces, telemetry and SCADA-connected field equipment.
• Carrying out electrical inspections, testing, isolations, verification and compliance documentation.
• Supporting switchboard and protection inspections, emergency power systems, RCD testing and other critical electrical maintenance programs.
• Responding effectively to breakdowns and faults to minimise downtime and service disruption.
• Using Council’s asset and work management systems to manage work orders, record asset history, update technical information and identify emerging risks and maintenance requirements.
• Providing technical input into maintenance, minor works and capital projects, including scoping, estimating, commissioning and defect resolution.
• Working with operators, engineers, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to coordinate safe and efficient site activities.
• Maintaining critical electrical spares and equipment to support continuity of essential services.
• Ensuring all work complies with electrical safety legislation, Australian Standards, Council policies and workplace health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Participating in a rotating on-call roster and responding to water and sewerage emergencies when required.

About You

You’re a qualified electrician with demonstrated experience working in an industrial, utilities, water, wastewater or process environment.

You’ll bring:

• A current Queensland Electrical Work Licence appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Experience in electrical installation, maintenance, testing and industrial fault finding.
• Strong knowledge of industrial power and control systems, including switchboards, motor control, VSDs, protection systems, standby generation and instrumentation.
• The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, control schematics, technical manuals and specifications.
• A sound understanding of relevant electrical and workplace health and safety legislation and Australian Standards.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively to critical equipment failures.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team.
• Good communication, planning and organisational skills.
• Confidence using electronic work management, asset management and Microsoft Office systems.
• A strong commitment to safety, environmental protection, quality, customer service and continuous improvement.

Mandatory Requirements

You must hold and maintain:

• Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence.
• General Construction Induction (White Card).
• Current Queensland Electrical Work Licence appropriate to the role.
• Current Low Voltage Rescue and CPR qualifications.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

The following will be highly regarded:

• Queensland Electrical Contractor Licence or nominee eligibility.
• Open cabling registration or relevant telecommunications cabling competency.
• High voltage switching, hazardous area or generator-related competencies.
• Confined Spaces certification.
• Working Safely at Heights certification.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience within the water, wastewater, utilities or other process industries.
