We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Fitter Water & Sewerage to join our Water branch and play a vital role in maintaining the infrastructure, plant and equipment that our community relies on every day.

This is an opportunity to bring your mechanical fitting expertise to a diverse operational environment, working across water, wastewater and recycled water systems. You’ll undertake preventative and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, fabrication, equipment installation and mechanical overhauls — helping ensure our assets remain safe, reliable and operational.

About the role

As the Specialist Fitter, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and construction of water and sewerage infrastructure and associated plant and equipment.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Performing scheduled preventative maintenance and condition monitoring to maximise plant reliability and performance.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
• Undertaking general mechanical fitting duties across water, wastewater and recycled water infrastructure.
• Completing fabrication, mechanical overhaul, installation, replacement and renewal works.
• Maintaining pumps, compressors, gearboxes, electric motors, conveyors, belt presses, vacuum systems, aeration systems, chemical dosing equipment and associated plant.
• Planning, scheduling and delivering maintenance and fabrication activities.
• Using workshop equipment including lathes, welding equipment and sandblasting equipment.
• Operating crane trucks and other relevant plant and equipment.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records, reports and documentation.
• Managing critical spare parts and ensuring essential equipment and supplies are available when required.
• Participating in projects from scoping and design through to tender review, pre-construction and close-out.
• Undertaking risk assessments, hazard analysis and safe chemical handling activities.
• Contributing to continuous improvement across maintenance systems, processes and service delivery.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, customers and other Council teams.
• Participating in a rotating on-call roster and responding to water and sewerage emergencies when required.

About you

You are a skilled Specialist Fitter who takes pride in delivering high-quality maintenance work and understands the importance of keeping essential community infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.

You will bring:

• A Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in the water and wastewater industry, or a closely related industrial environment.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding, repair and maintenance skills.
• Experience working with pumps, conveyors, compressors, gearboxes, electric motors, chemical dosing systems, aeration systems, vacuum systems and other treatment plant equipment.
• The ability to plan and undertake mechanical repairs, fabrication and maintenance work.
• Experience using workshop machinery and equipment, including lathes and welding equipment.
• The ability to work safely with chemicals and undertake hazard analysis and risk assessments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to an integrated team.
• A commitment to safety, quality, environmental responsibility and excellent customer service.

Mandatory licences and tickets

You will need to hold and maintain:

• Queensland LR Class driver licence or higher
• Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent
• Queensland General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Queensland High Risk Work Licence – LF Forklift

Desirable licences and competencies

The following will be highly regarded:

• Queensland Restricted Electrical Licence
• RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
• RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights
• T0011 – Introduction to Electrical Network Infrastructure for Authorised Person
• Queensland Traffic Management Implementation Card
