Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Operator Excavator - Level 6 to join our multi-disciplined team responsible for the construction, maintenance and improvement of Council’s infrastructure assets.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, operates plant and equipment safely and efficiently, and enjoys working as part of a team while also being able to work independently.

About the Role

As a Plant Operator, you will undertake a diverse range of civil construction, maintenance, labouring, plant operation and truck-driving duties to deliver Council’s annual works program.

You will be responsible for operating heavy plant and equipment, undertaking general labouring activities and contributing to the safe and efficient delivery of road construction and maintenance projects.

A key component of the position is the ability to operate an excavator to final trim, achieving the required levels and tolerances for civil construction works.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain heavy plant, vehicles, equipment and tools in a competent, safe and efficient manner.

• Undertake civil construction and maintenance activities in accordance with recognised standards and Council requirements.

• Perform labouring duties, including frequent heavy lifting, bending and other physically demanding tasks.

• Operate an excavator to final trim level and achieve the tolerances required for construction purposes.

• Contribute to the timely and high-quality delivery of Council’s works program.

• Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and members of the community.

• Plan and organise road construction and maintenance activities, including working with limited supervision where required.

• Identify opportunities to improve work practices and contribute to Council’s commitment to continuous improvement.

• Maintain plant and equipment in accordance with relevant procedures and requirements.

• Comply with all workplace health and safety, environmental and operational requirements.

About You

We are looking for a practical, reliable and safety-focused individual who can demonstrate:

• Proven experience operating plant, vehicles, equipment and tools in a competent and proficient manner.

• Demonstrated experience operating an excavator to final trim and achieving construction levels within required tolerances.

• The physical capacity, agility and dexterity required to undertake labouring duties, including frequent heavy lifting and bending.

• The ability to plan and organise complex road construction and maintenance activities.

• The ability to work effectively with limited supervision while contributing positively to a team environment.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with Council employees and members of the public.

• A commitment to safe work practices, quality outcomes and continuous improvement.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must hold:

• Competency to operate an excavator to final trim level.

• General Construction Induction Card (White Card or equivalent).

• A current Queensland C Class Driver Licence or higher.

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies

The following qualifications, licences and competencies will be highly regarded:

• Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations or a related discipline.

• Civil Construction Grader Operations.

• Conduct Roller Operations.

• Front End Loader Operations.

• Skid Steer / Skid Steer Loader Operations.

• Traffic Management Implementation.

• Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence.

• Other relevant plant, equipment or truck licences and competencies.
