We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Coordinator Governance, Information Access and Privacy to join our team and play a key role in supporting good governance, transparency, accountability and legislative compliance across Council.
This is a diverse and influential role suited to a governance professional who enjoys working across statutory compliance, information access, privacy, complaints, policy governance and Council meeting processes.
About the Role
As the Coordinator Governance, Information Access and Privacy, you will coordinate a range of critical governance and statutory functions and provide trusted advice to internal stakeholders, elected members and external customers.
A key component of the role will be acting as Council's formally delegated statutory decision-maker for Right to Information (RTI) applications, including assessing applications, interpreting legislative requirements and making formal, legally binding determinations under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld).
You will also coordinate Council's information privacy framework, including assessing and responding to potential data breaches and ensuring statutory notifications and actions are undertaken within legislative timeframes.
The role also has responsibility for coordinating administrative action complaints, supporting Council's obligations under human rights legislation, overseeing native title administrative functions, maintaining the corporate policy framework and coordinating governance processes associated with Ordinary and Special Council Meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:

Coordinate Council's Right to Information functions, including assessing applications and making formal statutory determinations under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld).

Coordinate Council's Information Privacy compliance framework, including data breach assessment, response and notification requirements.

Coordinate the administrative action complaints process, including investigations, independent reviews, assessments and reporting on complaint trends.

Provide informed advice regarding Council's obligations under the Human Rights Act 2019, ensuring human rights considerations are appropriately incorporated into decision-making.

Coordinate native title administrative functions, including enquiries, legal referrals and ensuring native title considerations are identified in relevant Council processes.

Coordinate Council's corporate policy framework, including policy development, review, maintenance, approval pathways and legislative alignment.

Provide governance input into corporate documents, statutory publications, delegations-related material and other governance documentation.

Coordinate the end-to-end governance processes for Ordinary and Special Council Meetings, including agenda planning, meeting logistics, governance advice and meeting documentation.

Oversee the preparation and confirmation of accurate Council meeting minutes and maintain the Council Resolutions Register.

Support elected member statutory induction, onboarding, training and professional development records.

Provide advice on governance processes and support responses to elected member information requests.

Work collaboratively with business units to promote sound governance practices, legislative compliance and continuous improvement.
About You
We are looking for a highly analytical and organised governance professional with strong knowledge of Queensland legislation and the ability to interpret complex legislative requirements and provide clear, practical advice.
You will bring:

High-level knowledge and demonstrated application of the Right to Information Act 2009, Local Government Act 2009, Information Privacy Act 2009, Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010 (Qld) and Ombudsman Act 2001 (Qld), together with supporting regulations.

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide quality advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Experience working respectfully and effectively with First Nations peoples, particularly in relation to native title, Traditional Owner engagement, cultural heritage and community consultation.

The ability to apply established legislative and organisational criteria to the management of information.

Experience using and auditing corporate systems, including finance, records management, customer request and human resources systems, together with strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.

Highly developed analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.

The ability to work independently while maintaining professional standards, objectivity, confidentiality, ethical conduct and discretion.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications, studies or relevant experience in information privacy, native title, human rights and/or governance will be highly regarded.
Knowledge of local government processes, legislation, regulations, activities and responsibilities will be highly regarded, as will the ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.
Mandatory Requirement

A current and maintained Queensland C Class driver's licence.
