Remuneration: Salary range commencing at $56,600 per annum (depending upon study and experience levels) plus 13% superannuation

Role Overview
The main focus of this role will be to assist in the engineering design, plan production, cost estimating and documentation for many of Council's works projects.
About the Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to undertake a university qualification while you work within the civil engineering field, and be mentored by subject matter experts. Gympie Regional Council is seeking to offer the right candidates the opportunity to be supported during university study, and as such, the position would suit a school leaver planning further tertiary education in an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, or a candidate currently studying within the field.
As Cadet Designer, you would be responsible for such tasks as:
- Assisting with the design and preparation of plans on Council projects such as roads and bridge construction, parks, carparking configuration, stormwater systems and other civil engineering matters, ensuring cost effective designs within set time frames.
- Dealing with civil design enquiries from within council, professional consultants and the general public under guidance.
- Interpret and apply civil engineering practices, standards and specification in relation to designs and project plans.
- Compile and enter database information under supervision.

About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Secondary school results that will qualify for entry to a University to study an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering (or be currently studying within this field)
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical skills (computations, engineering design, drafting and documentation) and oral communication skills (telephone and public relations).
- Develop knowledge of Australian Design and Engineering standards and computer systems.
Mandatory Requirements
- Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
- Construction Industry White/Blue card.
Although not mandatory for this position, the following would be advantageous:
- Develop written communication skills (correspondence and report writing) and Council communication software, CAD and survey equipment.
- Working knowledge of Council Directorates and Divisional operational and computer systems.
