Senior Plumbing Inspector

 

Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $88,984 plus 13% superannuation.  This position also includes Commuter Use of a Council vehicle.

Role Overview

This position is required to oversee the delivery of services by Council's team of Plumbing Inspectors, with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service to provide a high standard of plumbing services that promotes community health, amenity, and safety in the built environment.

The successful candidate with be required to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Council’s plumbing services and assets are constructed and maintained to the legislative standards.

What we are looking for

Council is seeking an experienced qualified Plumbing Inspector to lead the Plumbing Services team within our Community Sustainability Directorate. We are looking for a candidate who is not only technically experienced in the plumbing trade with an analytical approach to problem solving, but who also possesses a strong customer care focus with a respectful approach to conflict resolution and excellent communication and leadership skills.  

As the Senior Plumbing Inspector, you could expect to be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the efficient processing of all plumbing and drainage related applications and certificates which includes all inspections and certification.
  • Supervising Plumbing Inspectors to complete daily assessment and inspection tasks to meet legislative standards and customer demands.
  • With respect to plumbing matters, provide expert advice to the plumbing team, as well as both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor incoming Customer Requests through Council’s management system to assess risk, and determine response times to allocate appropriately according to skill and expertise.
  • Prepare Council reports on plumbing related matters.
  • Ensuring that notifiable works and other registers meet legislative requirements.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of budgetary requirements for the plumbing section.
  • Providing expert advice for investigations into non-compliance of plumbing related matters, including the preparation of court briefings, and representation of Council at Court hearings.

To be considered for the role, you must have:

  • A current Queensland Plumbers and Drainers Licence with relevant endorsements;
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class drivers licence or above that is current and maintained;
  • Construction Industry Safety Induction Card (blue/white).
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience in the interpretation of Legislation, Codes and Standards relevant to the Plumbing industry.
  • Demonstrated experience (minimum of five years - preferably 10 years) in the assessment, inspection, and certification for all plumbing application types, including commercial Class 2 – 9 buildings, in accordance with legislation, codes and standards, including the assessment of performance based solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team of plumbing professionals, including experience in current human resource practices.
  • Experience in the development and review of operational budgets to achieve financial efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to facilitate the preparation of written instructions, reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and foster a customer service culture.

Desirable for this role will be:

  • An Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Construction Hydraulics) or equivalent tertiary qualifications would be highly regarded.
