Leading Hand - Bridge Crew (Road Asset Maintenance)

 

Remuneration: Level 7 - $1223.71 per week plus allowances and 13 per cent superannuation

About the Opportunity

Opportunities exist for suitable candidates to apply for the permanent position of Leading hand - Bridge Crew within the Road Asset Maintenance Branch.

The Leading hand role is “Hands On” performing under remote supervision and is responsible for providing high level support to the Maintenance Supervisor through the coordination and supervision of daily activities of work crews and contractors performing assigned tasks.

This role is responsible to provide a high standard of expertise to a level acceptable to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Leading Hand is expected to present a positive image of Council’s workforce through courteous public contact, timely and proficient completion of work tasks and the utilisation of efficient and effective work practices.

Your day to day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assist the Supervisor to plan, organise, co-ordinate with direction and Supervise allocated staff, contractors and plant resources in a competent and efficient manner to deliver council’s work program.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner to deliver councils work program to quality standards.
  • Identify innovative ways to improve work practices in accordance with council's commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Undertake “hands on” tasks associated with construction of civil infrastructure as assigned by a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Adopt a leading role in both the health and safety training and practical job-related skills improvement associated with the current Workplace Health and Safety Act/Regulations.
  • Ensure the timely maintenance and appropriate use of small plant and equipment
  • Competent operation of motor vehicle and mechanical plant, for which licenses are held
  • Provide competent traffic management associated with the control and direction of vehicular traffic through and around work
  • Ensure daily inspection, maintenance records are completed for assigned plant and work cooperatively with service personnel in the repair and maintenance of assigned
  • Provide a high level of client service at all times, to both internal and external
  • Complete required paperwork in a prompt and detailed manner, g. timesheets, activity reports, customer requests etc.
  • Undertake numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position.
  • On-the-job instruction and training of colleagues to promote growth in knowledge and skills.
  • Work within confines of environmental legislation, ensuring best practice work procedures to minimise environmental
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by the relevant Supervisor and/or Management within the scope of this position.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform work at trade or equivalent level under remote supervision.
  • Ability to operate and maintain plant and equipment consistent with competencies held.
  • Capacity to perform physical labouring tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and coordinate a team to complete daily jobs within a work environment of high complexity. (BSBWOR502)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, set priorities and plan works in an environment of changing priorities and competing demands. (BSBWOR404)
  • Sound numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety considerations relevant to the area and proven ability to limit risks in this type of environment. (BSBWHS401/RIIRIS301D)
  • Ability to ensure all work is performed to meet legislative requirements and responsibilities of Council.

 Mandatory Requirements

  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card.
  • Possession of a Trade Certificate (Certificate III) and completion of RIISS00002 – Skill Set Leading Hand or willingness to complete such qualifications

Although not mandatory for this position, the following would be advantageous:

  • Certificate 3 Civil Construction or Certificate 4 in Civil Construction Supervision or similar.
