Role Overview
The Coordinator Arts, Community and Culture provides direction, leadership and support for a multi-disciplined team tasked with enhancing artistic, cultural and community development in the Gympie region. The role will identify and implement innovative and sustainable community, arts and cultural activities that promote wellbeing and encourage inclusive, connected and creative communities. The role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operations of Council’s major venues including the Gympie Regional Gallery, Civic Centre and the Pavilion.
The Coordinator Arts, Community and Culture will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Lead all operational aspects of Unit management including but not limited to Budget and Risk management, development of business plans, policy and procedures, compliance with corporate plans and strategies, people and performance management and reporting.
- Manage the Unit and direct reports to build a high performing, cohesive team.
- Coordinate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs, strategies, initiatives and policies for the Unit.
- Collaborate with key external organisations and networks to advocate for and achieve enhanced arts, community and cultural outcomes for the Gympie region in alignment with Council's strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic and policy advice to the Manager Community and Commercial Services, Executive Leadership Team and Council on matters relating to the Unit's scope, taking account of community need, industry trends, best practice principles and legislation.
- Lead communication on behalf of the Unit within the organisation and with external parties.
- Pro-actively seek to grow income streams for the Business Unit through government grants and external funding.
- Ensure effective and efficient management of Council’s major venues including the Gympie Civic Centre, Pavilion and Gympie Regional Gallery.
- Manage the effective delivery of a transparent and responsive Community Grants Program for the organisation.
What we are looking for
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- Formal Qualifications in Social Sciences, Government Administration, Arts or Venues Administration, Community Services, or relevant experience in an equivalent field.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a diverse team to achieve high-level outcomes and the ability to balance competing priorities and workloads
- Sound understanding of, and demonstrated ability to apply, community development, community cultural development and community engagement principles
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication, liaison and negotiation skills, and ability to foster enduring partnerships
- Strategic thinking and planning skills
- Skills and experience in advocacy and network development, with all levels of government, the creative and community sectors
- Knowledge of financial management and budgeting procedures.
