Remuneration: Annual salary commencing from $58,420 (depending upon study and experience levels) plus superannuation

Role Overview

To assist in the survey, plan production and documentation of projects for Council and external customers.

About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to undertake a university qualification while you work within the field, and be mentored by subject matter experts. Gympie Regional Council is seeking to offer the right candidate the opportunity to be supported during university study, and as such, this position is suitable for applicants ranging from recent high school graduate with no industry experience through to an incumbent university student (undergraduate) or recent graduate.  Applicants with industry experience and the ability to enrol in a Spatial Science Degree should also apply.

As Cadet Surveyor, you would be responsible for such tasks as:

  • Survey and preparation of plans for Council under the direction of council surveyor and Coordinator Civil Design, with set time lines.
  • Assist in field survey work under the direction of council surveyor officers.
  • Dealing with survey inquiries (within council and external customer).

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Eligible to enrol in and undertake an Associate Degree in Spatial Science.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical skills (computations, survey and drafting) and oral communication skills (telephone and public relations).
  • Develop knowledge of Australian Surveying standards, survey requirements and procedures.

Although not mandatory for this position, the following would be advantageous:

  • Develop written communication skills with correspondence and report writing and skills in operating Council computer software, CAD and survey equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Council Directorates and Division operations and computer systems.
