Labourer/Operator - Slasher Operator - Road Asset Maintenance (L5)

Remuneration: $1158.90 per week and 13 per cent superannuation

About the Opportunity

For this particular role, Council requires a Labourer/Operator to join the Road Asset Maintenance team.  This position supports Council’s direction by undertaking plant and labouring tasks (primarily focused on Slasher Operation), as part of a multi-disciplined team that is responsible for the maintenance of Council’s infrastructure assets in accordance with recognised standards.

Your day to day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Operate and maintain medium complexity plant and equipment in a competent and efficient manner to deliver council’s work program in accordance with the level of the Award.
  • Perform labouring tasks in a safe, competent, efficient and timely manner to deliver councils work program to quality standards.
  • Identify new ways to improve work practices in accordance with council's continuous improvement commitment.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • RIIMO0315A Conduct tractor operations, or willingness to obtain this competency
  • Queensland ‘MR’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Competency RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Plans (Level 2)
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card.
  • Experience operating medium rigid tractors and slashers in various terrain
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under limited supervision as the position requires you to work on your own for period of time 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmony within a team and foster good working relationships with all council employees and members of the public.

Although not mandatory for this position, the following would be advantageous:

  • Demonstrated experience in construction and maintenance of roads including earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater and concreting.
  • Cert 3 in civil construction / plant or similar

You must also be physically fit and able to do heavy labouring work such as digging post holes, sweeping aggregate off roads, installing guide posts, patching pot holes and using tools such as whacker packers, guide post drivers and vibrating plates. 

 Successful applicants will be required to undertake various checks such as skills, qualifications, reference, medical and national police.
