Operator - Waste

Remuneration: $1191.38 per week, plus applicable allowances and 13% super
Closing Date:  Sunday 29 January 2023 at 11.00pm AEST.

About the Opportunity

This position ensures safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable operation of council operated solid waste management facilities. 

As the Operator - Waste, you would be responsible for tasks such as:

  • Transport waste and heavy equipment between waste management facilities
  • Operate all applicable heavy equipment including, but not limited to, landfill compactors, hydraulic excavators, backhoes, loaders, as required to maintain landfill and transfer sites
  • spray pesticides and herbicides and other specified chemicals over waste material and landfill areas to control disease carrying pests and weeds
  • implement measures to control windblown litter including litter picking
  • perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • perform duties of skilled labourer as required
  • performs related work as required.

About You

Council is seeking an experienced plant operator and labourer to work in our solid waste management facilities.   A person who is conscious of standards and who appreciates the responsibility that comes with working in the public eye will do well in this role. 

To be successful in the role, you will require:

  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant plant and machinery, heavy vehicles and heavy vehicle combinations, including loading and towing of equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively and cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Experience in working autonomously and in following general direction.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills to facilitate internal and external stakeholder communications, especially with council’s customers.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Queensland ‘HC’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue card
  • Excavator competency

Although not mandatory for this position, the following would be advantageous:

  • Backhoe competency
  • Loader competency (wheeled and tracked)
  • Roller competency
  • Certificate III in Waste Management
  • ACDC Licence or Chem Cert.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the operation of a solid waste management facility and waste transfer sites.
